Earth (Terra Atlantus in Ancient) is the home planet for the SG teams. Stargate Command is located in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, United States of America.
History
Earth was the first planet that the Ancients colonized when they left their home galaxy. Some five million years ago, the Ancients were forced to leave in Atlantus for Pegasus due to a plague. They eventually returned after the war with the Wraith. (SG1: "Lost City, Part 2", "Avalon") (SGA: "Rising")
Shortly afterwards, the Goa'uld System Lord Ra discovered Earth, and took it for his own, ruling for 5,000 years. An alternate SG-1 travelled back in time and helped the ancient humans rebel against Ra, who abandoned Earth. (Stargate) (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Moebius")
In the movie, thanks to the stargate, our heros find out that humans live on other planets in addition to Earth. As the SG-1 series progresses, the term Tau'ri is used to specify humans from Earth.
