Colonel Douglas Russo was a Tau'ri scientist who was a USAMRIID team commander and an army infectious disease field agent.

Biography[]

Background information[]

He was from an Army family and had three brothers. Douglas originally only saw the Army as a way to put himself through medical school, not as a career. However, shortly after medical school, during a stint at Fort Detrick's USAMRIID labs, he was put into the front lines of the 1989 Ebola crisis in Reston, Virginia. As travel times decreased and travelers increased, the risk of chaos being visited on the United States grew, and that risk drove Russo to join the fight to prevent it.[1]

As a young Captain, he joined a field research team as a junior member. He traveled around Earth and spent time in Zaire tracing the origins of Ebola, the American Southwest where he treated a resurgence of the Hanta virus, the South American jungle in search of new potential cures. Within a few years, he led entire teams of researchers.[1]

When his promotion to Colonel came, he was mainly directing the actions of multiple teams from Fort Detrick. He oversaw both the field research and the work of identifying and cataloguing the pathogens from the field.[1] (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")

1997[]

Following Stargate Command's Touch outbreak from the Land of Light, the SGC underwent a quarantine review. Russo wasn't given full disclosure on the reasons behind the review but he knew he had to get involved when the team investigating the parasitic virus confronted him with their suspicions of its extraterrestrial nature.[2]

When the true nature of the SGC was revealed to him, Russo didn't hesitate to take up his old field position. After he helped test the mountain's isolation lab upgrades and spent a little political capital, Russo took command of a field assignment on P3X-797. He researched the Land of Light's unique virus and hoped to apply what he learned to a wide array of other maladies.[2] (RPG: "Fantastic Frontiers: Stargate Season One")
