De oppresso liber is a Latin phrase meaning "to free from oppression" and is the motto of the United States Army Special Forces. Captain Samantha Carter references this in regards to the women of the Shavadai whom Colonel Jack O'Neill stated that it doesn't count as its not their world. (SG1: "Emancipation")
