The Creed is the Aturen's philosophy and guiding set of principles based on the teaching of the Nox. It developed after conversations with them and is patterned from some of the same beliefs that have guided the Nox for millennia. The Creed taught the Aturen how to thrive in their environment without giving in to the need to exploit their homeworld Atura. The Creed is center to the Aturen philosophy, and they judge all of their actions by its teachings. The Creed is a deeply personal belief for all Aturen.[1]
Overview[]
The Precepts[]
The 6 Precepts of the Creed:[1]
- The highest service is to help those in need.
- The world is sacred; live in balance with it.
- Use only what you need.
- Avoid conflict, and end it quickly.
- Together our strength is multiplied.
- Respect the choices of others.
Interpretations[]
Aturen have debated these principals for centuries, and they have numerous universities and libraries on Atura that are filled with books discussing the Creed and its philosophy. They also have great debating halls on Atura that always have philosophers and academics that discuss the true intentions of the Creed. However, while their society has based their laws around strict interpretations of the Creed, it can differ significantly between Aturens and each of the Great Houses is based around their own interpretation of the Creed.[1]
The House of Ground and Sea are stanch traditionalists when it comes to the Creed and prefer to follow it as diligently and faithfully as they can. House Melipoli devoutly follow the 4th Precept and believe that war can still be avoided.[1]
The House of Steel and Stone believe that the Creed is essential but should not be dogmatically followed to the detriment of their way of life.[2] House Valingar view the Creed as a quaint philosophy from another era.[1]
House Seliniae viewed the Creed as an ever-evolving philosophy and had stayed faithful to its teachings, but when the call for war against the Goa'uld came, they knew they had to help free the enslaved people of the Milky Way galaxy. They stood firm by their allies in the Tau'ri and Tok'ra, and lent their considerable resources towards opposing Anubis and the System Lords.[1] (RPG: "Core Rulebook")
