The theory of classical physics, also known as Newtonian physics, was formulated by the scientist Isaac Newton in the sixteenth century. It dictates that the universe is a continuum, and that quantum discreteness should be in-tolerated; thus, everything about the universe should be known in real-time, and the future can be predicted easily by looking into the past. However, in the early twentieth century, classical physics was refuted by the theory of quantum mechanics. Modern scientists such as Colonel Samantha Carter believe that classical physics is a good introduction to nature but that quantum physics has more merit. (SG1: "Prophecy")
