Chen is a Tau'ri who was assigned to the Icarus Base in 2009.

He and roughly 80 people were forced to evacuate Icarus Base during an attack against the base by three Lucian Alliance Ha'tak vessels. He ended up on the Destiny, an Ancient spaceship located several billion light years from Earth. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")
He was wounded while Lucian Alliance forces arrived on board Destiny. He was taken to Brody's bar and was treated by Lt. Tamara Johansen. He tried to take a gun from a Lucian Alliance soldier when he was either already treated, or waiting to be treated by Johansen during the invasion. Though he succeeded in killing the Alliance soldier and shooting several others, he was shot by Varro after a short struggle. (SGU: "Incursion, Part 1", "Incursion, Part 2")
