Charlie Holland was a Captain serving in the United States Air Force during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Background information[]
Holland's helicopter was destroyed and he was injured, seeking refuge in an old Russian helicopter until he was found by Major John Sheppard, a friend of his. Unfortunately, Sheppard was not able to save him. While suffering the effects of a Wraith mind manipulator Sheppard had hallucinations of Holland. (SGA: "Phantoms")
2009[]
While trapped on a desert planet, Sheppard has nightmares about Holland's death due to the similar situation he's in. Sheppard explains to Teyla Emmagan who had previously witnessed his hallucinations of Holland that he eventually went to sleep and when he woke up, Holland had died in his arms during the night. Sheppard later meets up with Major Tyrone Franklin, the XO of the George Hammond who was at the Afghanistan base after Holland's death. Franklin tells Teyla that the court-martial stopped short of dishonorably discharging Sheppard for going after Holland as he didn't defy a direct order. They also cleared him of Holland's death and couldn't make any other charges stick. (SGA: "The Lost")
