Chalcis, designated P3X-595 by the Tau'ri, was a planet in the Milky Way galaxy that SG-1 visited prior to the mission where they encountered the Shavadai. After having been saved from Turghan, Captain Samantha Carter said that she had never been so pleased to see the rest of the team. Colonel Jack O'Neill replied by referencing a mission to P3X-595 where Carter drank something that apparently caused her to take some, or maybe even all, of her clothes off. Carter interrupted O'Neill before he could reveal any more details of the incident. (SG1: "Emancipation")

The population of Chalcis is derived from Ancient Greek stock, and still use a derivative language.

The Stargate on Chalcis is located in a plaza serving a similar purpose to a terrestrial airport terminal, with scheduled departure and arrival times for in- and outbound travellers. (SG-1: Sacrifice Moon)

As of SG-1's first contact with Chalcis, the city-state of Aclythos had maintained control of the Stargate for 50 local years. Control of the Stargate had changed hands between several other city-states within a day's travel from it throughout the planet's history. Gate travel is free to citizens of Aclythos, but others interested in using the Stargate must pay to do so. The patron god of Aclythos was Poseidon.

The agora, or marketplace, in Aclythos is home to an intricate mosaic depicting the history of Chalcis. Notably, as observed by Dr. Daniel Jackson on SG-1's initial visit to the planet, a section depicting the period after the first activation of the local Stargate had been removed and replaced at some point in time, in order to conceal historical events. This change was noticed due to a difference in tile size and style in comparison to the original composition. It was later determined that the changed portion of the mosaic originally represented a fifth member planet of the Helos Confederacy, although the local population seemed unaware if it still existed.

Behind the scenes[]

Chalcis derives it's name from the real life city of Chalcis in modern Greece.

Fans, especially "Jack/Sam" shippers, often speculated as to the specifics of what happened on this planet. It is often a subject of fan fiction and there are at least two fan websites named after it.
