Carmen Young, named after her grandmother, is the daughter of Lt. Tamara Johansen and Colonel Everett Young.

During the Lucian Alliance invasion of Destiny, Tamara Johansen (pregnant at the time) was shot in the abdomen. Doctors operated and were able to stop the bleeding and save T.J.'s life, but were not able to save the baby. However, T.J. experienced a different series of events. After she was shot, she awoke in a bed in a cabin with her baby safe and alive next to her. She was greeted by Robert Caine, who explained that the aliens that watch over the planet and the former Expedition members, had chosen to save her baby. Though the baby will remain on the planet and be raised by the settlers, T.J. must return to Destiny. During her time on the planet, she was shown a phenomenon that she saw again upon re-awakening aboard Destiny, reassuring her that what she experienced was more than a mere dream or vision. (SGU: "Incursion, Part 2", "Intervention")

The revelation that the Destiny can interfere with its crew's unconscious minds makes these events of further dubious authenticity. (SGU: "Trial and Error")

When the settlers returned to Destiny without Carmen it completely proves to both of her parents that she is indeed gone. (SGU: "Visitation")
