Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound and a common substance found in rock. It is the main component in the shells of marine life. In 2009, the crew of the Destiny traveled to a desert planet in search of calcium carbonate to use to fix the CO2 scrubbers aboard the Destiny. When they first arrived on the planet they found gypsum, which did not contain the necessary amount of calcium carbonate. This was tested by mixing the compound with some acid, which would be absorbed if the compound had a high enough calcite concentration. Andrea Palmer, a geologist, stated that the most efficient and portable compound which contained calcium carbonate that they could find would be high concentration granular limestone. Lt. Matthew Scott later found some lime with the help of a strange "Dust bug" and it was used to fix the scrubbers. (SGU: "Air, Part 3")
