"I've sedated him, administered a beta-blocker to bring his blood pressure down to a more manageable level. It's a wonder he didn't suffer a stroke."
Dr. Carson Beckett[src]

Beta blockers are a type of medication used to lower blood pressure.

After Dr. Rodney McKay took a large dose of wraith enzyme to escape his captors and returned to Atlantis, he collapsed. When Dr. Carson Beckett got to him he wasn't coherent and was hyperventiliating. Beckett administed him a beta blocker to get his blood pressure down to a more manageable level. (SGA: "The Hive")
