The Battle of P5X-104 is a battle between the forces of Hecate and SG-1, aided unknowingly by help from an alternate timeline created by the battle ending in Hecate's favor.

Prelude[]

During a raid on Atlantis to stop the creation of Goa'uld-Wraith Hybrids, Major Samantha Carter discovers Janus' Time Jumper and realizes that it can be used to prevent SG-1 from ever getting trapped in the future in the first place. After dropping off Sting, James O'Kane and Sobek-Boneshard at Sting's Wraith Dart, Carter and Colonel Jack O'Neill agree that they have to try to set things right and take the Time Jumper to P5X-104 and then travel back in time to February 7, 2000, the day that they were sent into the future.

After reaching the past, Carter and O'Neill discuss the situation and decide that their best course of action is to help SG-1 reach the Stargate faster by preventing Dr. Daniel Jackson from getting severely wounded, something that had slowed them down greatly during their own timeline's version of the battle. The two locate their past selves campsite which hasn't yet been inhabited and there is no sign of any Jaffa yet either before landing the Jumper.

O'Neill and Carter go over their memories of the attack, figuring out where the Jaffa would first appear and that they had most likely ringed down from an orbiting Ha'tak as there had been no sign of a Jaffa presence around the Stargate when SG-1 had first arrived on the planet. O'Neill questions why a Goa'uld would be waiting in orbit and then attack, suggesting that it must've been a purposeful ambush. The two realize that the NID mole that O'Neill is trying to expose must've leaked the mission rota to get O'Neill out of the way and to stop him from uncovering Colonel Harold Maybourne's rogue operation, but Carter wonders why the Goa'uld risked a ground assault when they could've just bombed SG-1 from orbit instead. However, O'Neill dismisses this question as unimportant, suggesting that the Goa'uld is simply overconfident. As the two get into position near where they believe that the Jaffa will ring down, Carter realizes that their tactics in the original ambush had been strange and suggests that for some reason, the Jaffa were purposefully driving SG-1 towards the Stargate.

As the two discuss the situation, the enemy Jaffa ring in with the daylight masking the arrival of the ring transporters. This once again causes Carter to question their tactics as the Jaffa will wait until dark to attack when they have SG-1 outnumbered and have air support. With Carter insisting that there must be something more going up, she and O'Neill perform reconnaissance on the twelve Jaffa who are clearly waiting for something. Observing the Jaffa, the two are shocked to discover from their tattoos that they serve the System Lord Hecate who is supposedly their ally in the future. As a result, they realize that Hecate has been playing them all along and that her intention on P5X-104 is to drive them into the wormhole at a specific time in order to send SG-1 into the future. This means that Hecate has already altered time and by ensuring their past selves return to Earth, they are setting things right. With the Jaffa beginning to move out, O'Neill and Carter follow them in order to set the future right. (SG1: "Insurrection")

Battle[]

Three hours after sundown, Hecate's Jaffa begin their attack, advancing in three squads of four, one to each side and one down the middle. The alternate O'Neill and Carter each follow one of the flanks as the Jaffa begin their attack on the past SG-1. The Jaffa that the alternate O'Neill are following are in a poor formation, spread out in a strung out line in order to cover as much territory as possible and to keep SG-1 from breaking away in the wrong direction away from the Stargate which probably makes sense when they believe that SG-1 is the only threat on the planet. The Jaffa at the head of the line moves further ahead, circling around the side of the camp while his comrades hang back. With the Jaffa having made himself vulnerable with this move, the alternate O'Neill follows him as the Jaffa settles himself into a position at point-blank range to SG-1 where he doesn't take any of the team out despite having the advantage. As the Jaffa raises his staff weapon, the alternate O'Neill blasts the Jaffa with his Wraith handblaster, knocking the Jaffa unconscious. As the alternate O'Neill collects the staff weapon, the action causes SG-1 to begin pushing towards the Stargate immediately. The alternate O'Neill melts deeper into the forest before the Jaffa can catch up and doubles back around, coming in closer to where SG-1 is retreating. The alternate O'Neill's actions buy the team a little more breathing room as well as getting him a better weapon than just his Wraith stunner.

Over the next couple of hours, the alternate O'Neill and Carter observe the Jaffa's pursuit of SG-1 back to the Stargate with the pattern of their attack making it clear that the Jaffa are simply chasing the team back to the Stargate. Eventually, the team reaches the clearing where Dr. Daniel Jackson was severely wounded the first time around. As the Jaffa pin SG-1 down, the alternate Carter observes them discussing calling in aerial backup as SG-1 is moving to the Stargate too fast for Hecate's plan to work. As the Jaffa is about to shoot Daniel this time around, he is taken down by the alternate O'Neill with his staff weapon, preventing Daniel from being severely wounded. A firefight breaks out between the alternate O'Neill and the Jaffa on his side while the alternate Carter uses her stunner to take down two of the Jaffa on her own side as SG-1 retreats. With Daniel having been saved, history is altered and sent down a new path, but the alternate Carter and O'Neill don't vanish, causing her to realize that Hecate's plan could still succeed. Remembering the Death Gliders that had strafed them at the Stargate, the alternate Carter rushes ahead of SG-1 to be in position to cover them at the Stargate from the aerial attack.

The alternate Carter links up with the alternate O'Neill on a hill overlooking the Stargate where they can hear the sounds of SG-1's fighting retreat from the Jaffa. Knowing that the Death Gliders will there soon, the alternate O'Neill decides to distract the gliders with his staff weapon while the alternate Carter handles keeping the Jaffa busy. Now aware that Hecate is somehow behind everything, the alternate Carter guesses that the whole point is that Hecate needs SG-1 in the future for some reason, but expecting them to vanish once the future is changed, the alternate Carter guesses that they will never know why. Finally, SG-1 arrive at the Stargate with the alternate Carter and O'Neill taking positions on either side of the Stargate. While the present Carter dials the Stargate, the alternate Carter takes out a Jaffa that is taking aim at her. A Death Glider attacks, sending Daniel tumbling, but leaving him apparently unhurt. As the glider comes around for another pass, the alternate O'Neill opens fire on it with his staff weapon, hitting it twice in the nose and forcing the glider to veer off, opening the egress for O'Neill and Teal'c.

The alternate O'Neill and Carter link up and keep watch as the present Carter finishes dialing the Stargate and the Death Glider doesn't return for another pass. The two keep up covering fire on the trees, keeping the Jaffa at bay with their staff weapons and buying SG-1 time to escape. Finally, SG-1 makes it through the Stargate back to Earth without Hecate's Jaffa being able to force them through the event horizon at a specific time, altering the future and foiling Hecate's plot. (SG1: "Insurrection")

Aftermath[]

However, despite successfully changing the future, the alternate O'Neill and Carter don't disappear when the wormhole closes. As a result, Carter realizes that instead of erasing their timeline, they have simply created an alternate timeline that will run parallel to the restored one. Unable to unmake their future, O'Neill and Carter decide to return to the 2098 of their timeline using the Time Jumper and free the planet from the clutches of both the Goa'uld and the Wraith. (SG1: "Insurrection")

With the attempt to get rid of SG-1 a failure, O'Neill embarks upon his mission to expose the NID mole soon afterwards as planned, capturing Colonel Robert Makepeace and the NID's entire off-world team. With the SGC exonerated, their alliances with the Tok'ra, Tollan, Nox and Asgard are saved, along with Earth's position in the Protected Planets Treaty. As a result, the desolate future that the alternate Carter and O'Neill came from never comes to pass in the main timeline. (SG1: "Shades of Grey", "Insurrection")

Alternate timelines[]

  • In an alternate timeline mentioned by Hecate, she had SG-1 killed by her Jaffa in an ambush on the planet. As a result, Colonel Harold Maybourne's rogue NID operation was never exposed and Earth was abandoned by her allies and subsequently destroyed by Apophis. As a result, over the next ninety-eight years, Earth became a battleground between the Goa'uld and the Wraith who arrived in Atlantis. (SG1: "Insurrection")
  • In a second alternate timeline, after realizing that she needed Colonel Jack O'Neill's ATA gene to pilot Atlantis, Hecate went back in time and altered the outcome of the ambush to get SG-1 into the future but also to not significantly change the timeline. In this alternate timeline, Hecate's Jaffa ambushed SG-1 and drove them towards the Stargate, slowing them down by constant attacks ground and Death Glider attacks and wounding Dr. Daniel Jackson. As a result, they were able to force SG-1 to enter the wormhole at the correct moment, resulting in the wormhole getting caught in the accretion disk of a drifting black hole, using its gravitational lensing effect to transport SG-1 to the year 2098 of the alternate timeline. SG-1's disappearance had the same result as their deaths had in the previous timeline. (SG1: "Hostile Ground", "Insurrection")
