"Even if Ishta cannot be saved, we must take the opportunity to kill Moloc."
"That is not my goal."
"It is mine. And that of all the Jaffa who have joined in rebellion against him.
"
Aron and Teal'c argue about taking the chance to kill Moloc.[src]

The Battle of Hak'tyl II was the final battle between the Hak'tyl Resistance and the Goa'uld System Lord Moloc on Hak'tyl ll with the aid of the Tau'ri.

Prelude[]

In 1973, the Goa'uld System Lord Moloc decreed that all female Jaffa born in his domain would be sacrificed in the Ceremony of Fire, as only male Jaffa could bring him victory in the wars against the rest of the Goa'uld. The High Priestess Ishta formed the Hak'tyl Resistance to spirit away newborn girls in secret over the next thirty years. In 2003, the Hak'tyl made contact with the Tau'ri of Stargate Command who offered them tretonin to end the Hak'tyl dependence on Goa'uld symbiotes.[4]

By 2004, Ishta had formed a significant resistance force amongst Moloc's ranks and plotted to rise up in open rebellion and overthrow the sadistic System Lord. However, the Tau'ri and the Rebel Jaffa advocated waiting as the Jaffa and the Tau'ri had determined that the only way to overthrow the System Lords for good was to gather enough Jaffa to rise up all at once against their masters, otherwise another System Lord would simply take over their territory and armies. Ishta rejected this idea due to the increasing danger both her resistance and the women in Moloc's domain were under.

Due to the danger of Hak'tyl's location having been uncovered, the resistance was forced to relocate to the SGC in the middle of the debate over the best course of action while a new homeworld was located. Eventually, one of Ishta's contacts sent a message requesting a meeting to discuss their next move and the SGC sent him the location of Hak'tyl ll, the newly-chosen homeworld of the Hak'tyl. Teal'c joined the meeting in an effort to convince the Jaffa to hold off until they were ready to rise up against every System Lord.[3]

Battle[]

Suddenly, the argument was interrupted by Moloc's Jaffa surrounding the meeting tent and opening fire from all sides, killing most of the Jaffa gathered inside. Teal'c, Aron and Ishta, having heard the Goa'uld staff weapons priming outside, ducked in time and managed to escape the massacre.

Making their way to the Stargate, the three found it heavily guarded with dozens of Jaffa. Though Ishta advocated going back, knowing that any survivors would be tortured, Teal'c had them wait as the Stargate activated. Brigadier General Jack O'Neill contacted Teal'c over the radio, concerned as he had not checked in and Teal'c reported the ambush and concluded that the address of Hak'tyl ll must've fallen into the wrong hands. Unsure of the number of forces or if Moloc had ships in orbit, Teal'c refused backup until he could perform reconnaissance to better determine what they were up against. O'Neill agreed to check in again in about an hour and cut the connection.

Departing the vicinity of the Stargate, Teal'c warned Ishta that someone in her camp had betrayed her which was the only explanation for the presence of Moloc's forces. However, Ishta was worried that she didn't have her tretonin as she'd left it in her pack in the meeting tent. When Teal'c tried to give her some of his, he discovered that his vial of the drug had been shattered when he'd fallen to the ground. Aron interrupted their conversation to warn that they had to move on as a Jaffa patrol approached.

That night, Teal'c, Aron and Ishta conducted surveillance on the meeting tent where the enemy Jaffa had set up camp. Though Aron wanted to attack since there were only six Jaffa outside, Teal'c warned that more could be hidden nearby anticipating their approach. Hearing screams of surviving rebel Jaffa being tortured, Ishta found it hard to wait, especially with the Tau'ri's forces as backup, but Teal'c warned that without knowing the size of Moloc's forces present, they could be leading any backup to a slaughter. Without any other option, Teal'c admitted that there was nothing that they could do and led the other two away. Without her tretonin,

Ishta began weakening, causing Teal'c to force a rest to allow Ishta to regain some strength. Aron grew impatient as they couldn't hide forever, but Teal'c was unrelenting in arguing that they needed to know more about the size of the forces arrayed against them though Aron stated that they were heavily outnumbered and didn't need to know more. Ishta dismissed Aron to talk to Teal'c alone and Teal'c and Ishta recognized that Aron could easily have been the traitor that led Moloc to the planet. With her strength waning and determined to free all Jaffa under Moloc's rule, Ishta remained impatient to act.

The next morning, Teal'c and Aron woke up to find Ishta gone and discovered that she had been captured by the Jaffa and taken to the meeting tent. Inside, the Goa'uld System Lord himself greeted Ishta while Teal'c realized that Moloc was present after observing the Jaffa surrounding the tent. Walking away, Aron again urged Teal'c to act, wanting to take the opportunity to assassinate Moloc even if Ishta couldn't be saved which was the goal of Aron and the entire Hak'tyl Resistance. Teal'c pointed out that without reinforcements, they would be swarmed by Moloc's forces, but Aron was willing to die for his cause if it meant killing Moloc. With Aron refusing to listen to reason and unwilling to trust the other Jaffa, Teal'c shot Aron with a zat'nik'tel and took Aron's staff weapon before continuing on alone.

Based on information Teal'c subsequently provided, the SGC began preparing for a missile attack through the Stargate to take out the Jaffa forces guarding it as a distraction for Teal'c's rescue of Ishta. Bra'tac warned that Moloc would surely kill Ishta before surrendering, but Teal'c was more worried about what Moloc would do to Ishta in the meantime. Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter explained to Bra'tac that they would send a UAV to drop more tretonin for Teal'c and to then paint the Jaffa targets at the Stargate for the missile strike. Bra'tac revealed that he had learned that Ishta's rebel force on Moloc's worlds was indeed a mighty force and were preparing for war against Moloc's loyalists. However, Bra'tac admitted that he didn't know if they could win. Carter stated that even if the rebellion did win, another Goa'uld could simply come in and take Moloc's place or worse, wipe out the rebels as an example which Bra'tac concurred with, but also stated that such reason was now beyond the Hak'tyl rebels.

The SGC launched the UAV, but Moloc's Jaffa shot it down before it could reach Teal'c. Carter directed Teal'c to the aircraft's location and promised to dial back in 30 minutes. Carter warned Bra'tac that without a laser painted target, shooting the missiles would be useless as they would simply fly out their fuel and crash.

Reaching the crash site and running out of strength, Teal'c retrieved the tretonin but was interrupted by Moloc's Jaffa before he could inject it. Teal'c was unable to convince the Jaffa to turn against Moloc, but Aron attacked and aided Teal'c in taking out Moloc's Jaffa. Near collapse, Teal'c was finally able to take his tretonin and thanked Aron for the rescue. Now trusting Aron, Teal'c provided him the laser designator from the UAV and directions on how to use it when the missiles came through the Stargate. Though Aron would not be able to help him a second time, Teal'c still set out alone to rescue Ishta.

At the same time, Moloc tortured Ishta for hours for information on the rest of her rebellion, but Ishta defiantly refused to break under the torture. Over time, Ishta weakened further without her tretonin and Moloc noticed her attention on the bag containing it. Finding the tretonin, Moloc mockingly suggested that she take it so that they could have more time together, but was interrupted by his First Prime Cha'ra with news that an uprising had begun on Goranak with an army of 2,000 marching on Moloc's temple backed up by Death Gliders and Al'kesh. Having foreseen this, Moloc's fleet of Ha'tak were gathered in orbit awaiting his order to crush the rebellion. Finished with Ishta, Moloc ordered Cha'ra to use her to capture Teal'c and then to bring Teal'c to him, neither man noticing Ishta discreetly taking her tretonin which Moloc had left beside her.

Moloc returned to the Stargate to leave, but the SGC dialed in before Moloc could dial out. Teal'c confirmed that he was in position and ready for the missile strike. Carter fired two AGM 65-G Maverick missiles through the Stargate which Moloc's Jaffa failed to shoot down. Concealed nearby, Aron used the laser designator to aim the missiles directly at the Goa'uld System Lord. Spotting the laser pointed at his chest, Moloc realized its purpose too late. The missiles struck, killing Moloc and his gathered Jaffa.

Armed with two staff weapons tied together, Teal'c rushed the tent and killed the remaining Jaffa between him and it. Discarding the staff weapons, Teal'c armed himself with a zat, but found Cha'ra with a knife to Ishta's throat. Cha'ra warned that in Ishta's weakened state, zatting both of them even once would kill her while Ishta urged Teal'c to shoot. Hearing the missiles strike, Teal'c informed the First Prime that Moloc was dead, but Cha'ra refused to believe that a god could die. With Ishta urging him to shoot, Teal'c finally complied and knocked Cha'ra unconscious before he could recover from the zat blast. As Teal'c went to give Ishta some tretonin, she reassured him that it was no longer necessary as she had taken her own. Ishta could hardly believe that Moloc was finally dead and agreed to go see for herself once she recovered her strength.[3]

Aftermath[]

Though the Hak'tyl Resistance finally succeeded in overthrowing Moloc, the victory was not without its downsides. Shortly thereafter, as Teal'c and Bra'tac had tried to warn Ishta, another Goa'uld System Lord took the opportunity left by Moloc's death to take over his domain: Ba'al. This increased Ba'al's already immense power, something that the Tau'ri and the Rebel Jaffa had been trying to prevent with their more long-term plan of waiting to rise up until they had enough rebel Jaffa amongst all of the System Lords' ranks. With their second homeworld comprimised, the Hak'tyl moved to another world discovered with the help of the Tau'ri.[3]

Despite his initial disbelief in Moloc's death and fanaticism, Moloc's First Prime Cha'ra would change sides to the Rebel Jaffa and become one of Teal'c's closest allies in the later Free Jaffa Nation.[5]
