Barnes was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, who was assigned to the Icarus Base in 2009.

2009[]
She and roughly 80 people were forced to evacuate Icarus Base during an attack against the base by three Lucian Alliance Ha'tak vessels. She ended up on the Destiny, an Ancient spaceship located several billion light years from Earth. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")
Barnes was part of the team to go to the Tick planet with Lt. Matthew Scott, Airman Dunning, Dr. Dale Volker and Lt. Vanessa James. She was the only one of the team not to get affected by the Alien ticks. (SGU: "Pain")
2010[]
Upon seeing a recording that detailed the alternate timeline relationship between Barnes and Eli Wallace, Chloe Armstrong suggested that Eli should think about pursuing a similar romance, since it obviously worked on Novus. (SGU: "Epilogue")
When the expedition is forced to evacuate to a Novus colony for safety, Barnes joins TJ's team in searching the city for supplies. (SGU: "Blockade")
During a mission to a planet to get palladium hydride, Barnes mans the Gate room control console, dialing the Stargate for the away team and monitoring their progress through a Kino. Barnes reports to Colonel Young on the away team's success as they collect the samples needed. Later, like the rest of the crew, she enters stasis for the trip to the next galaxy. (SGU: "Gauntlet")

- In an alternate timeline, she chose to return to Earth with everyone else but like everyone else except for Colonel David Telford, didn't make it to Earth and was presumed dead. However, she ended up on a planet that she and other survivors called Novus, 2,000 years in the past. At some point, she married Eli Wallace and had at a son with him. (SGU: "Twin Destinies", "Epilogue")
