Atura is a planet in the Milky Way galaxy that has a Stargate. It is the homeworld of the Aturen. They and the Nox coexist on the planet peacefully.
Overview[]
The Nox taught the Aturen how to live symbiotically with their planet. Aturen live in cities within the trees, and advances in bioengineering have created massive trees capable of supporting several hundred tons of weight on their branches. Most of what Aturen technology is built from is grown in massive groves on Atura and they have shunned most forms of technology that is too toxic for the environment.
History[]
The Nox and the Aturen[]
A millennia ago, Atura was visited by a Nox family that was ill. They came to Atura due to the planet containing herbs with amazing qualities. The Aturen, the planet's natives, helped the Nox at the cost of their own lives when they took the dangerous journey. To repay them, the Nox decided to shepherd the nascent race to ensure their survival. This included taking the appearance of help spirits that scared away predators or to hide Aturen encampments from their enemies and taught them the values of peace and understanding, and helped them live symbiotically with the environment instead of taking what they needed from it.
As time went on, the Aturen built cities in the trees of Atura and when they started to become more technologically advanced the Nox revealed themselves for what they truly are and the Aturen took it well.
The Nox and Aturens co-exist peacefully. The Nox also established a Floating city on Atura.
The Shameful war[]
The Aturen's had developed technology at an accelerated rate, and when the Aturen's Great Houses went to war, the Shameful war ended with a fusion warhead detonated above the Shinolon forest. Ten square miles of terrain was destroyed in an instant, and caused forest fires that destroyed hundreds of miles in every direction from the blast. The Nox, who had been not interfering up into this point and instead stayed in their Floating city, finally brought the leaders of the Great Houses to them. The Aturen finally set aside their differences and worked to end the war peacefully. The Nox used their technology to cure the land. Life eventually returned to the continent except for a small section known as the Great Shame.
The Coming of the Tok'ra[]
After escaping the System Lord Ba'al's forces, the Tok'ra Polonius' Tel'tak crashed near an Aturen listening post. Its crew from the House of the Stars the Estrellus, managed to extract Polonius and brought him to Atura. The Aturen Parliament was angry at his rescue, as they feared Polonius would bring the conflict he spoke of to Atura, however most of the Parliament realized Polonius' stories of the state of the Milky Way galaxy couldn't be ignored.
Polonius stayed on Atura for two years, taking part in discussions with the Parliament and swaying several of the Great Houses to his side. The Parliament eventually voted on ending their neutrality and to began negotiations with the Tau'ri. Polonius returned to his people with several Aturen ambassadors.
The Nox and the Gift[]
Originally over the centuries, the Nox had shielded the world from the eyes of the System Lords, with what it called the Gift. The Gift cloaked the planet and had a barrier around it. Any ships that had entered the Star system would instead register a debris field full of uninteresting minerals that weren't worth mining.
However, once the Aturens decided they could no longer stand by while the System Lords ruled over the galaxy, the Gift was removed. Making Atura visible. (RPG: "Core Rulebook")
