In an alternate timeline, SG-1's travels through time created an alternate timeline in which Earth was invaded by the Goa'uld in 1947.

History

Due to disruption to the wormhole due to energy being fired into it by the staffs of a few Priors, SG-1 is sent back in time to 1947 and trapped in a cavern under Cheyenne Mountain created by the unstable vortex. At the same time, the energy discharge damages the Earth Stargate. A future version of Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Carter and a man going by Herbert George arrive using the same device Cassandra Fraiser used to send SG-1 home after they accidentally got sent to the future. Carter, now a General, reveals what has happened to Vala Mal Doran and General Jack O'Neill who is temporarily in command of the SGC while General Hank Landry has surgery. General Carter helps to upgrade the Time Jumper with an Asgard transporter in order to effect a rescue and warns that they must rescue the Asgard scientist An from that time as well.

The arrival of the Time Jumper in 1947 damages An's ship and knocks O'Neill unconscious. Vala is able to beam the team and what she believes to be An onboard while also healing O'Neill's head wound with a Goa'uld healing device hidden on the ship by General Carter. A groggy O'Neill attempts to return them to the future, but accidentally sends them back to 1908 where the Time Jumper collides with a Goa'uld Ha'tak ship, causing significant damage to the Time Jumper and sending the Ha'tak crashing to Earth where it explodes, creating the Tunguska Impact. As well, the rescue Asgard proves not to be An but rather the rogue scientist Loki who was performing illegal experiments on humans. An effort to get parts to repair the Time Jumper with the help of H.P. Lovecraft results in a barn fire and Vala and a wounded Cameron Mitchell being left behind. Loki convinces the team that he can repair the transporter if they return him to 1947, but subsequently beams off the ship, having sabotaged both the time device and transporter.

In the meantime, Mitchell and Vala are left stuck in 1908 with no way home and start posing as a married couple, moving in with Lovecraft's family. After learning that someone died in the fire that shouldn't have, their worries about changing the future for the worse spur them to search for the device that General Carter and Cassandra had used to return to 1908 and set things right, becoming rich in the process using Mitchell's knowledge of future events to make good investments. They ultimately manage to find one half of the device amongst Lovecraft's things and the other half in King Tut's tomb and dig up the Stargate with orders to rebury it. Their orders are ignored and the Stargate is later displayed in the Metropolitan Museum in New York while their influence changes Lovecraft from a writer to a scientist. The initial plan is to go to a planet Vala knows of to get a Needle Threader Death Glider to return to 1908 through the Beta Gate, but the planet proves to be under the control of Qetesh who captures them. All of their actions result in an alternate timeline with Mitchell later theorizing that the man who died wasn't the important event but rather what they did to try to fix things.

When SG-1 arrives in 1947 with Loki, it is the 1947 of the alternate timeline where Earth isn't drastically changed from the 1947 they knew aside from the presence of the Stargate in the museum. As SG-1 gets caught up in the events surrounding the Roswell crash, in reality An's escape pod crashing due to a chase with Loki's clones, the Goa'uld launch an invasion of Earth. The invasion proves to be lead by Mitchell, now the First Prime of Qetesh who has taken Vala as her host. While Qetesh's invasion is supposedly for Ra, her real intention is to use Earth's nuclear bombs to launch a Coup D'etat and take power for herself, using Vala and Mitchell's knowledge of Earth. Mitchell proves to still be the same person he once was and has been planning for years to overthrow Qetesh.

Though Mitchell promises to help get the hand device for the team, they choose to aid the Earth of the alternate timeline in stopping the invasion. With the help of An, the team is able to steal two Little Boy-type atomic bombs and rig them. By beaming them aboard Ra and Qetesh's ships, they are able to destroy the ships and kill Ra and Qestesh, Vala along with them. Mitchell escapes through a ring transporter to New York where he takes command of the surviving Goa'uld forces and orders them to retreat. Mitchell is able to provide the team with the hand device to use the Stargate to return to 1908 and set things right, but chooses to remain in the alternate 1947 since he belongs in the alternate timeline. An remains with Mitchell and suggests that the alternate timeline will continue to exist as a separate reality from the one the team knows rather than being erased completely. An intends to be rescued when the Asgard check out what happened to him and joins Mitchell in going to the world leaders in the aftermath of the invasion.

Upon returning to 1908, SG-1 beams An, Vala, Mitchell and the man who died in the fire aboard. Vala is able to heal the man with the Goa'uld healing device, restoring history to its proper path. Upon their return to their own time, General Carter and Herbert George depart with An. As he leaves, Herbert reveals his real name to be Herbert George Wells, causing Dr. Daniel Jackson to realize that he was in fact the famous science fiction author H.G. Wells the entire time.
