Destiny's solar energy collectors.

Solar power refers to the utilization of the radiant energy from a star or stars. Solar power refers more specifically to the conversion of sunlight into electricity by photovoltaics or concentrating solar thermal devices.

Solar panelsEdit

"...which would come in very handy if we were trying to power a couple of electric golf carts."
Rodney McKay[src]

Tau'ri outposts are almost always equipped with solar power generators. Even after the development of naquadah generators, the Tau'ri continues using solar panels. Solar panels provide very little power when compared to naquadah generators, but they do provide sufficient power for running Tau'ri computers and other such technologies. Solar panels are also used by many people on Earth. (SG1: "Spirits", "One False Step", "Prodigy", "Allegiance", "Fallen", "Enemy Mine")

Solar power is also used by other races in both the Milky way and Pegasus galaxies, such as the Pilations. (SGA: "The Lost Boys")

Atlantis is capable of being powered by solar power via solar cells placed around the city. These solar cells, along with a Mark XII naquadah generator were used to power the city's shield, Stasis pod, and Long range sensors in an alternate timeline when the sun became a red giant.(SGA: "The Last Man")

People of Novus also used them. At least one colony was powered by them and the fallout bunker was powered by a combination of solar, geothermal and wind power.(SGU: "Common Descent", "Epilogue")

Destiny and Seed ShipsEdit

"The ship is powered by the stars themselves. Solar powered, quite literally."
Nicholas Rush[src]

Destiny also uses a kind of solar power. However, instead of merely absorbing radiant energy, the ship is actually capable (in conjunction with its energy shields) of flying through the lower atmosphere of a star and harvesting the star's energy. The Seed ships use solar power in the same way as Destiny. (SGU: "Light", "Resurgence")
