<!-- Dr. Nicholas Rush is unable to sleep due to nightmares of being tortured by Kiva. He heads to the control interface room, where Dr. Lisa Park is currently working. As he steps up to one of the monitors, he discovers a red box with Ancient writing on it. Clearly surprised by the find, he tentatively asks Park about it. She states that the program suddenly froze. He asks why she didn't call him for help, and she says that a reset usually fixes the problem. Rush presses a few buttons and clears the error, which confuses Park, then abruptly leaves without explaining what he did.

Rush makes his way to an empty room with a large blast door. He inputs a code into the door control panel, causing the blast door to slide away. Being it is another door, ornately styled. He presses the door release button, opening the room. The interior houses several consoles and a chair with consoles mounted to it. As he examines the chair, the entire room lights up. This is followed by the room suddenly moving, rising up from the top of the ship so the windows aren't obstructed by the hull. Rush has unlocked Destiny's bridge. He sits in the chair and begins taking notes, when he is unexpectedly confronted by his deceased wife, Gloria. She explains that he has found the master code, and now has full control of Destiny's systems. Furthermore, she believes he has no intention of sharing this information.

Wray is holding an interview with Ginn, questioning her on the Alliance's interest in Destiny. Ginn only knows rumors about the purpose of the ninth chevron, legends that it will grant those who unlock it god-like power, control over time and space, and other fanciful scenarios. Wray asks her to go back further, to explain more about the Alliance. As Ginn describes it, the Alliance are warlords. They conquer and enslave planets, burning crops to ensure dependence on the Alliance. They force people, herself included, into joining their ranks through threats and intimidation. Ginn says that they have not been fed well, but Wray assures her this problem is not unqiue to the prisoners. The ship's food supplies are running low. Ginn wants to know if they'll be sent through the gate and left behind, which Wray simply says hasn't been decided yet. Ginn assumes Col Everett Young will have the final say, but Wray makes it clear that she will also have a part in the decision.

In Young's room, Wray suggests that not all of the Alliance prisoners should be disposed of, as some were just following orders and aren't a threat. Young isn't buying it, as he believes it to be an excuse. Wray has reported back to Earth, and relates how the Alliance is becoming a much more prominent threat, with an attack on Earth being a possibility. Young's immediate concern is the prisoners, and he is considering leaving them on the next habitable planet. He excuses Wray.

On the bridge, Rush has found a nearby planet which could solve their food problems. The Stargate is inactive, but he can bring the ship out of FTL nearby so a shuttle can reach.
  +
  +
The ship drops out of FTL near the planet with the time set to seven hours, much to the confusion of the Eli Wallace and Adam Brody, who cannot figure out why. Rush comes in and explains his findings, being careful to leave out any reference to the bridge. He believes that a team should be sent to the planet to repair the gate. Eli notes that, with a one-hour travel time each way, there will be very little time to collect food. Young notes that a working gate will allow them to collect food much faster. Brody points out that in such proximity no connection can be made between their gate and the only on the planet, but Rush counters that, should Destiny's next stop still be in range of the planet, it would be that much more time to gather supplies. Young organizes a team and offers to send Rush, but Rush says he needs to stay. When pressed for an explanation, Rush hastily states that he's been working on several malfunctioning systems, which he should continue to tend to.

The team consists of Matthew Scott, Ronald Greer, Hunter Riley, Tamara Johansen, Vanessa James, Dunning, Dale Volker, Park, and Eli. Young decides to check on TJ just prior to the launch, to make sure she's up to it. She insists she is, though she admits that she isn't at 100% just yet. As the shuttle makes its way to the planet, Rush is examining the data on the bridge. Gloria insists that he should get some rest. When Rush turns towards her, he finds she's been replaced by Jeremy Franklin. Franklin claims that Rush has been making mistakes, noting that the volcanic activity has created extreme turbulence in the atmosphere. Rush says he already took this into account, but Franklin questions his findings; Rush based his calculations on technical specifications in the ship's database, not taking into account the wear and tear Destiny's extreme age has had on the shuttles. Concerned, Rush radios Scott and informs him of the turbulence, assuring him that the shuttle was designed to handle it. After a short but rough ride, the shuttle makes it through, much to Rush's relief. However, the engines suddenly cut out, and the ship crash-lands, impacting the side of a cliff.

In the crashed shuttle, everyone comes to. Though most of the team is unhurt, Riley's legs have been pinned beneath one of the shuttle consoles and a pile of rocks which have breached the window. He's alive, but he cannot feel his legs. He informs Young of their status; the shuttle isn't going to fly. Their only option is to find and repair the gate, then hope the ship stops within range of the gate after it enters FTL once more. TJ tends to Riley, aided by Scott and Park.

On Destiny, Young and Wray are discussing the Alliance prisoners when a report of a disturbance comes over the radio. The prisoners are trying to overpower their guards. Young rushes into the room and grabs one of the Alliance soldiers attacking his men. Young throws him to the ground and violently smashes his head on the floor several times, while Wray watches in horror. He then begins to choke him. Remembering himself, Young lets go before he kills the man.

On the planet, James, Greer, Volker, and Eli have reached the site of the Stargate, but it is nowhere to be found. Eli's Ancient remote control indicates that Destiny has jumped to FTL, and he begins to panic, despite suggestions from James to calm down. Greer, standing atop a large pile of rocks, shouts at the others that he has found the gate. Looking around, Eli cannot see it, but Greer directs him to look down: the gate is beneath them, having been buried in a rock slide.

On the bridge, Rush is unsure of what to do. He can't just drop the ship out of FTL whenever he wants, since the drives need to remain active for at least four hours during each jump to prevent burning them out. He can only stop the ship two more times to rescue the stranded crew members. Furthermore, with no planets in range, he'll be hard-pressed to explain why the ship is just stopping in the middle of nowhere. Gloria still recommends that he tell the others, but Rush vehemently insists that Young isn't fit to lead the mission and can't be trusted, since the situation with the Lucian Alliance is his fault to begin with. Young's incident with the prisoner only provides Rush with further justification. He's trying to figure out how to control the jump countdown instead, which Gloria is unhelpful with. He asks to see Franklin, much to her confusion. Rush explains that he has come to a conclusion; he's either gone crazy, and both Franklin and Gloria are just his subconscious, or the ship is presenting holographic avatars to communicate with him. Faced with Gloria's continued inability to help, he's forced to assume the former is true.

On the shuttle, Scott and Dunning try to lift the console off of Riley, causing him immense pain. It's too heavy to move, so they have to set it back down again. TJ asks them to left one more time to check Riley's legs. They oblige, and she feels the wound. Her hand is covered in blood when she pulls it back out. She comes to the conclusion that the console is the only thing keeping Riley alive at this point, and he'll bleed out if its removed. Scott and Dunning join the others in digging out the gate, leaving TJ and Park with Riley. Once they're gone, Riley asks TJ if she believes in any specific religion, telling her about his own religious mother. He is not religious himself. TJ isn't sure what she believes, but tells him about her experience on the alien planet while she was recovering from her gunshot wound. She knows it felt real, even though she can't prove it, and sees it as a ray of hope that helps her cope with the situation. Park quietly listens while resting on one of the benches.

Knowing that it will take them weeks to dig the gate out, Scott has opted to simply use explosives instead. Eli remembers reading that large explosions can potentially cause the naquadah in the gate to overload and explode, but caution ultimately gives way to survival and he agrees to the plan. The explosion clears most of the rock, and Eli remarks that it was a big explosion.

David Telford meets with Young, having used the long-range communication device to contact Earth. The IOA has compiled a list of the Alliance prisoners they want kept on the ship, while the rest are to be sent off-world. Young figures out that Telford has been given orders to take command should Young resist, and questions if the crew will be willing to trust Telford. Telford says that the military is expected to obey, but before he can discuss the civilians, the ship drops out of FTL.

In the control room, a confused Brody explains to Young that he doesn't know why the ship stopped, since there are no planets in range save the one where the team is trapped. Young sees this as an opportunity to dial the gate. In the gate room, Rush, again coming in after an unexplained absence, explains that the radiation from the binary pulsar has had an effect on the engines, causing them to shut down prematurely. The jump countdown is set to about three hours.
  +
  +
On the planet, the gate has been almost entirely uncovered. It suddenly starts shaking, and the team assumes that Destiny is trying to dial in. Clearing the remaining rocks from the event horizon, Eli uses his remote to dial Destiny. Scott comes through and informs Young of the situation. Young comes back with Scott to see Riley. Riley knows he's going to die, and his only concern is that the team leaves before the ship goes back to FTL. Young assures him that there's plenty of time. Riley is in a lot of pain, and states that he would ask Young for his gun if he didn't think the crew would blame him for the results. Instead, he pins his own hand. Taking Riley's cue, Young quietly suffocates him. He informs the team that Riley has passed away.
  +
  +
All but a small group of the Alliance prisoners are sent through the gate. Varro, Simeon, and Ginn are among those who are allowed to stay. A large gathering is held in Brody's bar, where Greer leads a toast to Riley. Young is alone in his quarters, drinking and silently crying. Scott is in his quarters with Chloe; she wipes a tear from his eye. Eli sadly listens to Riley's video diary.
  +
On the bridge, Rush blames himself for everything that happened. He intended to help the crew, and instead Riley died. Still, he is convinced of one thing: Destiny's name is not random. The ship has a purpose. On one of the consoles, a small message box pops up, which Rush reads intently.
  +
  +
The ship drops out of FTL in empty space, and Rush calls Young to the observation deck. Eli is also heading there, having overheard the radio chatter, and several others have come. Rush explains that Destiny is on-course for an object, which they shall be reaching shortly.-->
