Sure I guess. I always feel funny doing self-advertisement.
I'm sure some of you have seen this before but I've been doing an on going series called Stargate Millennium.
A common complaint I hear is that SGA was too much like SG1 so they liked SGU for doing something new. On the flip I also hear SGU was too different than normal SG.
SGM aims to do the same as the SG formula but with a twist in call categories.
Premise is that the Tau'ri have discovered Millennium, the former capital of the Alliance of Four Great Races located in a galaxy further than they've ever been before, NGC 300 AKA Caldwell 70. And thus they go to it to explore and witness the aftermath of the Alliance.
Unlike what the SGC is used to, most civilizations in Caldwell 70 are advanced with space travel and gate travel being the norm. They are all aware of the Alliance and seek its technology. However, the galaxy is in a near constant state of war with different factions battling each other for supremacy. On top of that, there are those who declare no allegiances, known as space pirates. These wild cards can be amicable or evil depending on who they are and what their goal is.
Leading the head team Wolf Pack is USAF Major Terra Anabelle Nova. She heavily worshiped SG1 and was mentored by both O'Neill and Carter. Though, this was under orders from the government. So she sees Jennifer Hailey as a big sister of sorts since, unlike her, Hailey was handpicked by Carter. She is running from a dark past. Frankly, she shouldn't even be qualified for the military to begin with, only able to join because she had the right connections who heavily pushed for her to be accepted. She sees the SGC as not only her chance to erase her past self but make up for her past mistakes. Nova is a good leader, making excellent decisions when given all the information. However, she also has a history of second guessing herself. If she is deprived of outside feedback, she becomes indecisive and can make rushed judgement calls.
Second in Command is Flight Lieutenant Charles James Martin of the Australian Royal Air Force. Unlike many, he has no darkness in his history. He grew up in a rich and loving family, born with a silver spoon. His father a business owner, his mother a surgeon, his younger sister a corporate lawyer. Technically he doesn't need to work a day in a hi life and he'll be set. But that is why he is here. He was instilled with good morals taught to him from a young age. But he is a prince who saw what was happening beyond his castle walls. So he wants to go out and make a difference. While often referred to as a sniper, he is technically more of a marksman, though he has training to fulfill both roles. He is known for his easy going personality, often making movie and video game references. He is known for humoring Australian cliche's to the point he's often yelled 'Crikey' for no other reason than because he thinks it's funny. Though, his morals and values often lead him to making the ethical choice even if it's not the logical one.
The scientist of the team is Doctor Steven Chen, a Chinese computer engineer, coming recommended because of someone he knew inside the SGC. Brilliant but angry and lazy. Most scientists in the SGC and a genuine interest in the alien technology they bring back. He's here to get paid. Chen is more active than the other team 'scientists'. He has a long history of martial arts and is the team's best hand to hand combatant. But he is known for his sarcasm and anger. After witnessing the murder of his family, he wants to get away from Earth and sees this expedition as the perfect way to. He often comes off a cold. But he is not an uncaring man. Rather, he cares too much. He also doesn't gamble or like risks. He'll usually make the logical choice even if it comes off as immoral.
And the Archaeologist is Professor Corin Nevec. Former citizen of the Ror'char Empire. Corin is often the voice of pacifism for the team, opting for peaceful negotiations after what he saw at the hands of the Ror'char. He is hateful toward them after they executed his wife for questioning their rule. As a result, all his rhetoric tends to end the moment when it comes to dealing with the Ror'char.
Supporting them is
USAF General William Mercer, leader of the Millennium Expedition. Unlike Hammond, Landry, Weird, Carter, or Woolsey, he is not your friend. And you do not want to make him your enemy. Silent, mysterious, cunning, conniving, Mercer's one and only objective is the advancement of humanity and the Millennium Expedition.
Major Jennifer Lynn Hailey. Yes, the one Carter recruited. She is the second in command of another team though is often called upon to assist Wolf Pack. Often clashes with Chen since he sees theoretical physics as a useless field that only found a purpose in the SGC by pure accident. And he often says Hailey specializes in "finding something simple and complicating it".
Doctor Kara Louise Osborn, an English biologist and medical doctor. A certified genius. Though not arrogant, she tends to overestimate her abilities. Also the ex-girlfriend of Steven Chen and the one who recommended him.
Soren Stavig, a fierri terrorist. Survivor of the aftermath of a genocidal purge that left all but one race on the planet, the victors grew to hate the actions of their forefathers. But Soren grew hateful and orchestrated terrorist attacks against the last nation standing. He now sees the error of his ways and joins the Millennium Expedition to find a better path.
Sir Samanya Acturus, Knight of Aurox. Aurox is the brother of Nox. They were part of a race known as Silerens. Nox was an assassin and Aurox was a crippled intelligence officer. Their race was engulfed in a war that turned their entire galaxy into an enormous field of asteroids and nearly rendered the Silerens extinct. Only a handful of followers of both brothers survived. Nox and his followers formed a pacifistic race that would eventually name themselves Nox in his honor. Aurox believed violence could be good if done in moderation and correctly. Aurox and his followers would one day vanish but his teachings would be found and those who followed became the Knights of Aurox, upholders of justice in the galaxy. Each knight has the armor, shields, physical strength, and firepower to match a modern day tank. And Samanya Arcturus was the leader of the Order.
Ha'kar, Spartan Guard formerly in the service of Ares. Now serves the Free Jaffa Nation. The jaffa are in the midst of a cultural revolution as their need to find new identities outside of being servants. And Hak'ar is amongst the more extreme, having a love for painting and other forms of art. He is serves as a liason for the jaffa. They often describe him as 'the funny one'.
Chen: "Why do you humor them like that?"
Martin:"What?"
Chen:"The whole 'crikey' thing. You aren't the only Australian here. We know Australians don't really say 'crikey'."
Martin: "Mate, it's called having fun with a stereotype. You should try it sometime."
Nova: "You're lucky your stereotypes are actually cool. The only stereotype of being an American is getting fat off of hotdogs and playing baseball."
Osborn: "Besides, you don't have any room to complain about stereotypes."
Chen: "What?"
Osborn: "The Chinese stereotype is being a supergenius and being a master of kung fu. You have a Doctorate in Computer Engineering from MIT and you do like five different martial arts. You're a walking stereotype."
Chen: "I...um...shut up."
Their enemies are also different than the SG formula. Unlike the jaffa, ori soldier, or wraith, the SG teams are severely outclassed. Whenever their enemies are encountered, they prefer to run or hide as opposed to fight. And when they do fight, they need a 3 to 1 advantage if they hope to win. Ror'char troopers are boarderline unstoppable and Quinteran soldiers are so genetically augmented they barely qualify as human anymore. The SGC needs to advance their tactics and their technology if they hope to match.
The first they encounter are the Ror'char, a tyrannical empire that believes peace can only be achieved through power. However, unlike most evil empires, they truly believe this and have even succeeded. Keep your head down, obey your commands, and do as you're told, and you will live a life free of crime or poverty. The Ror'char go to great lengths to secure peace. Even it's own officers and government officials are not above their own laws. If any grow corrupt, they can submit themselves to reeducation, commit ritual suicide to preserve their honor, or be hunted down, executed, then dishonored. Any who question their rule is send to reeducation or be executed. Overlord Exodan Krell is the perfect example of a Ror'char ranking officer. He executed Corin Nevec's wife, Andrea for defying the Ror'char. What Nevec didn't know was that Krell and Andrea are childhood friends and that their final dialogue before Krell pulled the trigger as an amicable one with Andrea forgiving Krell for what he is about to do. Krell had asked to personally do this, saying that he knows the tears he's forced others to shed, and he wants to make sure he knows their suffering.
We have the Quinterans. The first Fifth Race. And a major reason most of the Alliance hesitates helping anyone more primitive even in the face of true evils like Anubis. The Quinterans started out as a backwater planet who discovered their stargate. Then they discovered their galaxy was being oppressed by the warring race known as the Makhai. With the help of the Ancients and several other races, they defeated the Makhai. The Quinterans, at the time, were known for their hospitality and were hailed as heroes, defeating not only the Makhai but several other galactic evils. They were renown for their humanitarian efforts and kindness. Having entered the final stages of their war with the wraith and unable to help further, the Ancients declared the Quinterans as the Fifth Race and gifted them with technology. Fast forward to the present and the Quinterans have become the face of wanton death and destruction. The Quinterans are not a dictatorship nor an empire. They are a democratic republic that seeks freedom, equality, and democracy for all. Generic good guy stuff (in scifi the most common bad guys are the evil empire or the xenophobic race that sees itself as superior. Or both. And in the end, they always replace the government with the democracy). And because they are the good guys, any who question them are unforgivable bad guys who must be wiped out. You choose freedom or you choose death. They are champions of equality so if you question them, you are an enemy of equality and must be eliminated. Only enemies of democracy could ever possibly stand against them. All their former alien allies are now extinct. And the only reason they have not conquered the galaxy is because much of the galaxy was already occupied by powers that, even if more primitive, could match them. Leaving the Quinterans powerful individually but limited in number and resources. They are a dark reflection of the heroes, that just because your goal is heroic doesn't mean you are.
Finally, we have the Harvesters. The Asgard giving the Tau'ri their technology opened up a can of worms bigger than any could realize. The Alliance was not the most powerful races in the universe. Just as the universe is infinite, the mountain has no top. From the Forgotten Ones to The Exiles, forces beyond comprehension have grown curious about the Tau'ri. Able to wipe out all of known existence by sheer accident, they are only able to interact with the known universe through artificial creations, the most predominant being The Harvesters, named for effortlessly harvesting all organic life on a planet. The Tau'ri are lucky none of these Greater Beings seek to cause any real harm. Simple curiosity that an entity so beneath them it might as well be a zero dimensional dot now suddenly exists as a two dimensions shape. But if you put a bacterial under a microscope, nothing says the bacteria has to survive.
