What are you basing this on?
@Oberoth20 No, I mean before that. I read the passage. They talk about losing power on the 'iris'. Later in that story, they do replace the shield with an iris, but before then, they call the shield an 'iris.'
They call Atlantis' Stargate shield an 'iris'. Did they watch the show before writing about it?
Well, Vala seemed to sport it fine.
And I agree, in-general I wouldn't consider the books canon, or the comics. They really... no... Though I was glad to have *something* continuing the SGU story, even if it was pants.
Understatement.
I think this was in one of the books, but it established that the Ori didn't just find out about our galaxy, they knew it existed before, when they sent their own plague against the Ancients and therefore could've easily learned about the Stargates back then. Once Daniel showed up, that's when they learned the Milky Way was still heavily populated, and guarded by the now-ascended Ancients.
Yeah, but he doesn't say that. He just says, 'for a reason.'
"I know our ancestors buried this device for a reason."
So? Maybe figure out what that reason was, and realize your ancestors are not necessarily smarter than you!
Hell, isn't that the point of society and advancement? That we get smarter and better off with each subsequent generation? I mean, what the hell!?
In Vala's first episode, she's shown wearing Kull armor, and Daniel shoots her with a Kull Disrupter and she's fine. So no... it's not a more powerful version of a Zat gun.
Also, are we sure the Ori only came across the Stargates when they first arrived in the Milky Way? I think they at least had an idea of them before. While we never see Ori Stargates on the show, the Priors start arriving via Stargate, so they had to enter some type of gate to begin with, and unless the Ori just built them really really fast (which doesn't seem their style since they could've done that with the ships as well), Stargates were likely already a thing in the Ori galaxy before Daniel showed up screaming about wanting to talk.
I'm saying they didn't 'come across' the Stargate.
I had a similar theory, that the Destiny-class gates were made of a low-quality Naquadah alloy, rather than pure Naquadah. It's not because the Ancient's designs called for that, it's because the Seed Ships used whatever materials they came across, likely from asteroids since they'd be the easiest to harvest. And Naquadah is not the most plentiful of materials, so the ships, likely with their own AI, had to make do with what they had.
That explains why they have such a short range, and it could also mean some gates would be better constructed and more efficient and have even greater range than others. Destiny's gate on the other hand has such a short-range not as a required function, but as a safety precaution. To prevent the crew from getting stranded, it only dials gates that are within the minimum possible range of a Stargate the Seed Ships are specced to manufacture (any gate with a smaller range than this the Seed Ships would just scrap and recycle; if they build them at all).
It would also explain those episodes where it's like, 'we dropped out and are not in range of any gates whatsoever.' And then, 'we're on a planet and can leapfrog the gates to get from one end of the network to the other.' I mean, think about that mathematically. The Destiny can be between two gates, neither of which are in range of Destiny, but are in range of each other? The only way that would make sense is if Destiny has the shortest range of all. And how could that be if it could still dial Earth? I figure, only if it's a programmed thing, like a safety feature.
Anyway, don't know if this counts as on-topic. I'm just rambling.
They didn't have two Stargates, the alternate Destiny only went back in time 12 hours, not 2000 years. And as for Rush 'guiding them' or whatever... again, he was not one of the ones who went back in time. And why would they bother? What is the point? Yes, Novus' gate was destroyed. But that's when they decided to evacuate the planet by ship. And it looks like they evacuated everyone. There was no one left.
Now, as for them not having hyperdrives. Yeah, they probably should've had files on their laptops. However, they didn't bring their laptops. They were going through with 'the clothes on their backs, nothing more.' They thought they were heading back to Earth. Yes, Eli brought a Kino and a remote, but I'm guessing that was because his documentary was on it, and it's a cool piece of technology you can't get on Earth. Why would anyone bother bringing a laptop when laptops already exist on Earth? Maybe some of the original crew knew how to build hyperdrives. But obviously they just didn't think to write down how. Why not? They just didn't. They were a colonial society, those people would not be building spaceships anytime soon. Yes their decendants would, but obviously they didn't think hyperdrives were a big thing their society would eventually need. Why would they? Just wasn't a priority or concern for them.
Novus didn't even have hyperdrives. What makes you think they could build Stargates?
I'm thinking the reason they haven't even tried is because... there's no need. There are thousands of perfectly good Stargates already scattered throughout the galaxy. Why make new ones? Also, how many times has the SGC experienced gate problems simply because their dialing computer wasn't as good as a DHD? I'm willing to bet any Earth-built Stargates would have the same problem, but worse.
On that note I did have an idea of an alien race, only recently being introduced to the gate network, trying their hand at building their own gates. Their initial prototype explodes, destroying the planet they were testing it on. But they get it working eventually, and start seeding them throughout their galaxy. However the only reason they even try is because the gates that already exist in their galaxy are Destiny-type gates. And those gates are pretty shit. An upgrade would be worth it in that case.
I don't have either cable or streaming. But I would certainly buy a streaming service if I could watch new Stargate. I definately wouldn't buy a cable package for love nor Stargate.
I'm pretty sure it's similar to the wraith. You have queens, which are few, and the rest of the species, who it's mentioned can sire others. Take Klorel mentioning that Apophis 'seeded the queen mother'. As well as that, I believe the books cover Todd having a daughter, which they specifically say he sired. So they do have gender, male/female, but it's not an even distribution, as we humans would expect. More like insects.
Why would they? A multi-million dollar company who already has plenty of good will and a bunch of fans already agreeing to give them ideas with no agreement to be compensated for such. Why would they just give money away to people when they don't need to?
'Should' is not the same as 'will'.
"But does the creator get something in return?"
Um... I don't think so, no. Maybe their name appears in the instruction booklet.
Are not all jaffa born with a symbiote pouch? At the very least they develop one. It's part of their physiology. It's not something that's surgically implemented.
If there's enough support, Lego will actually start selling it as an official set.
