So as you may have seen in the show, 9 chevron dialing has quite a few differences to standard 7 chevron or 8 chevron dialing. I spent a bit of time thinking about these differences, and decided to share my take on them.
- Everything becoming "projectiles" upon exiting a wormhole:
As you may have noticed, in SGU: Air, Part 1, people are thrown out of the Stargate at a higher velocity to that which they entered in at. This is also mentioned in Twin Destinies, where Telford states that "Everything we carry with us becomes a projectile in a nine-chevron transit".
I believe this may be due to some sort of "bodge" the Ancients implemented, rather than programming a permanent, safer solution.. Since the Stargate de-materialises the travelers, converting them to energy during the transfer through the wormhole. Therefore, the inertial properties of objects or people transferred would also be sent as data to the receiving Stargate. Given that a 9 chevron address will lead to a Stargate of an unspecified distance away (most likely a much further distance than 7 or 8 chevron addresses) the velocity properties of objects is purposefully disregarded, possibly in order to reduce potential interference to the matter stream during transfer, or to allow for the matter itself to be boosted in order to reach the destination. When a traveler arrives through a Stargate, the Stargate, having no idea what velocity the object or person should have, forcefully ejects them from the event horizon, in order to ensure that they leave the gate. Evidence of Stargates behaving this way was seen in SG1: Red Sky, where SG-1 was thrown out of the gate after certain protocols in the dialing sequence had been overridden. Possibly, the matter stream was interfered with during transit, causing the velocities of those arriving to be lost.
- Radio signals are unable to travel through a 9th chevron wormhole:
In Air, Part 1, Scott tries to radio through the wormhole to tell people to "slow down", as they are proceeding through the gate too fast. However, his message does not reach the other side. In Twin Destinies, Telford mentions "it seems that a radio signal does not reach across a nine-chevron connection."
My theory on this is similar to that on objects becoming projectiles in 9th chevron transit. Radio signals are purposefully blocked from being bi-directional in order to minimize potential interference with the matter stream.
- Wormhole is still able to connect, regardless of whether or not the receiving Stargate is in a state of motion when a connection is attempted to be established:
Twice, when Destiny is dialed with a 9 chevron address, the ship is in a state of motion, specifically FTL. Destiny has been shown to receive this connection, and drop out of FTL, presumably to make a stable connection. This is unable to occur when a standard 7 chevron address is used to try and connect to Destiny.
I believe that, because 9 chevron addresses have no relation to the Stargate's physical position in space, a different protocol is used for locking onto the other Stargate, presumably using the benefits of the non-relative 9 chevron address to achieve a connection regardless of whether or not the Stargate receiving is currently in motion.

I was wondering, how good are the parenting skills of some people. For example on the episode Unending. Where Vala got pregnant by Daniel and she had given birth to a infant or infants. Although, they felt that was unthinkable to raise children on a ship.
So they created a child friendly bassinet equivalent of stasis pod.
So when Teal'c was inside the force field, he would be carrying the bassinet with him.
Vala would be insufferable, and she would love them. Not entirely sure of Daniel. As it not his infant / infants on a technicality.
Same thing about the Destiny Expedition from Common Descent, Epilogue.
I typically don't dive so deep into a series to read the books, like Star Wars. I tend to like to imagine the show/movies are the only true canon.
But... I love Stargate haha. Does anyone have any opinions? Are they worth spending the time reading? If so, any particular books to recommend?
Thanks
my idea uses procedural generation on the destiny for the most part when it comes to the space as well with what the planets looked like, but the basic idea is to use destiny like it was used in the show including exploration and experimentation,
It's an fixer up kind of situation with small scripted events to make things a little more interesting such as the events that happened when the ship was attacked or the ship recharged in an star, and just like in the show, when the crew were unable to use the defenses or know how to navigate the destiny as it was automatic.no drama between the crew that the show had, just straight up with the problem solving of situational issues onboard the destiny.
i actually liked the base premise of the show from the perspective of traversing the stars and exploring the universe and when something on the ship was in need of fixing, the ship's automatic computer would accommodate what the crew needed and would set a course for planets that had the materials needed and automatically dial the gate when you prepare a team to the planet with all the needed gear kino, armor, guns ammo, and the ship would set a time limit to gate back before the ship jumps into FTL back on it's journey while you fix the problems with the ship, you coordinate with your crew on what's needed,
such as medical supplies or to another part of the ship where you fix the areas of the ship that were damaged to repurpose them into something else like a gardening area so you can grow your own food onboard the ship to feed the crew.
communicate with your crew who specialize in science, tech, chemistry, invention, to learn from the ship as you explore the destiny, unlocking more areas to gain more control of the ship as well as discover new unknown secrets of the destiny and the history of it's journey and perhaps a little more about the history of the alteran.
i'm pretty much talking about an task management type of game where the player get's to play a part in all aspects of tasks and duties to manage the ship as well as being able to build from the damaged parts of the ship that needs work to gain access to more areas and build it into an well functioning machine like the destiny was new again.
Some previous fixed areas on the ship can become damaged again due to battles as well as other things going wrong, requiring the player to manage the crew to fix the area up again so it's in working order as well as reinforcing areas to be capable to handle more stress in battle,
For the most part you and your crew are onboard constantly maintaining the core functionality of the ship as some situations can prove to be hard to manage and keep in good repair when the procedural events take place.
The goal is to keep the ship in good repair at all times and survive the journey. The ship can be boarded by an enemy if you don't maintain the ships functionality in an constant manner,
rescue missions could also exist provided the crew learn how to use and fix the shuttles as well as the defenses on the ship. there are a few ways to complete a task with it's challenges that keep you moving as there is always something that can be improved on.
You can make allies and enemies of other races but it's up to the player in how you run your ship and how hard you want the game to be for your playstyle.
i have an theory that there are other stargate seeding ships similar to the SGU seed ships, still seeding planets and galaxies outside of their original perspective solar systems. for both the milky way styled gates and the Pegasus style gate systems.
they did this with SGU and the other seeding ships, why not with these other seed ships?
not to mention how many other galaxies could there be stargates within,
in SGU it was above 49 galaxies if i remember correctly, but the possibility's of the milky way styled gates as well as the Pegasus styled gate systems are more than likely seeded within many more galaxies. it would be silly for the alteran to only keep these gate systems only within their perspective galaxies and just stop right there.
if you look at an galaxy, there are all possible routs of an neighboring galaxy's that could exist in all directions. destiny and the seed ships that were sent before it were all sent on their path as predetermined based on the programmed rout of the seed ship or ships sent before it.
but there are galaxies all around our own within either direction, so it's possible that the second version of stargates are also still being seeded till this day, just like the seed ships that were sent out before destiny.
I would also consider that the Technology has advanced possibly a few thousand years since the first version of stargates existence, so the seed ships could be considerably faster and more advanced than the SGU seed ships, as well as the SGA seed ships.
the only example i know of that supports this theory points to the Asgard home world in the Ida galaxy, as it appears to be of the same model as the Milky Way network of gates.
While, now and then, logically speaking of time travel does appear to make sense. Like in the episodes Before I Sleep and Unending. Although, the episodes from the future mostly seemed off. Like in The Last Man and 2001.
Like how John was given the information from the Hologram McKay and when the note from 2010. When the timelines changed. Could that be assumed the memories of the events wiped out?
I’ve just finished the last episode of Stargate Universe once again. It made me think that although the story was never properly completed, watching it now, after seeing the advances in computed generated imagery aided by artificial intelligence, made me realize that one day in the future we could complete the story with the original actors being seamlessly generated by AI as they were in 2010.
Speaking it into existence. We haven't seen the last of Stargate Universe. Destiny awaits...
I don"t know why scyfy ended stargate universe like they did. I see a possible reason why they did, though.Ending it with Eli the last one gives scyfy an opportunity to pick the series back up after the three year FTL jump. I just finally got to get to where they cut it off and I believe the story could be finished or expanded on after the conclusion of destinies trip. Spin-off after spin off could come at the relief of every scyfy/science-fiction/fantasy fan future and past. The journey that stargate escorts you on is one of wonder and amazement. For this reason scyfy should bring DESTINY back with new characters and a once tie in episode with the original crew being rescued by home command. Sounds like a good plan to me.

I remember there was supposed to be another Universe comic called Icarus, but I haven't found anything about it except when it was mentioned back in 2017. Does anyone know if it was delayed or cancelled or anything?
