Plantilla:Infobox Episode Plantilla:SG1-5 "Revelations" is the twenty second episode of the fifth season of Stargate SG-1.

Synopsis[]

Following the loss of Dr. Daniel Jackson, Anubis has made his fleet immune to Asgard defenses, and he has captured Thor. SG-1 must assist Heimdall to evacuate all Asgard knowledge from Adara II, before Anubis gets his hands on them.

Previously on Stargate SG-1[]

The Goa'uld Anubis returns from the dead and rejoins the System Lords. Dr. Daniel Jackson suffers radiation poisoning and ascends.

Plot[]

An Asgard ship confronts two Goa'uld Ha'taks in orbit of the planet Adara II. Thor contacts one of the ships, which is under the command of Osiris, and orders them to retreat because they are in violation of the Protected Planets Treaty. She refuses, so Thor opens fire; surprisingly, his weapons have no effect.

At Stargate Command, Major Samantha Carter sadly looks over Dr. Daniel Jackson's belongings when Major General George S. Hammond arrives. They talk about the situation when the Stargate activates and Freyr arrives. He informs them about the Goa'uld attack on the planet and that Thor was killed. With the Goa'uld showing that they have more advanced weapons, the Asgard can no longer be certain of victory when dealing with superior numbers, and therefore none of the Protected Planets are safe, including Earth. He also asks them to rescue a scientist, who is trapped on the planet. Colonel Jack O'Neill agrees to do so.

SG-1 works with Heimdall

SG-1 takes a Tel'tak to the planet, and Sam talks with Teal'c about Daniel en route. When they arrive, they are beamed into a hidden laboratory. There they meet the scientist Heimdall, who informs them that Thor is still alive and imprisoned by the Goa'uld. They are able to contact him but he refuses to be rescued because Anubis will soon arrive and Heimdall's research is too important. Heimdall informs them that the Asgard are all clones and they are suffering from genetic degradation. They then develop a plan to rescue Thor and when Anubis arrives, Jack and Teal'c transport onto Osiris' ship. With Sam's help they are able to avoid capture.

In the meantime Anubis confronts Thor with a device which will be implanted in his brain and link with the ship's computer. Later Osiris orders the coolant of the engines to be vented into the lower decks. This stuns Jack and Teal'c. On the planet Heimdall shows Sam his research work – an ancient Asgard who he's researching to find out how to make the Asgard reproduce sexually. Heimdall beams to the Tel'tak with the research while Sam remains behind.

Osiris tortures Sam with his Kara kesh

On Anubis' ship the imprisoned Jack and Teal'c are contacted by Thor, who is able to control the ship's computer through the mental link. He opens their cell and guides them through the ship.

In the meantime, the laboratory is found by the Goa'uld and they use their weapons to blow a way to it so that they can transport inside it. Afterward, Osiris and some troops enter the laboratory and capture Sam with Osiris demanding to know where Daniel is. Sam tells Osiris that Daniel's dead which leaves Osiris stunned. He tells Sam that she's lying with Sam telling Osiris to go to Hell.

O'Neill-class ships arrive

On the ship Jack and Teal'c are able to find the control crystals for the entire ship and destroy them. Thanks to this Heimdall is able to beam Jack, Teal'c, Thor and Sam, who was questioned by Osiris, onto the Tel'tak. However because of the device in Thor's brain they are located and nearly destroyed. Suddenly three O'Neill-class Asgard ships under the command of Freyr arrive and confront the remaining Ha'tak (the other two left earlier to fight against Yu) and Anubis is forced to flee.

Back at SGC, Sam informs the others about the situation of the Asgard and Thor and that Thor fell in a coma when the device was removed from his brain.

That night, O'Neill, Carter, and Teal'c are on their way out of the base to go out to eat when there is an odd breeze inside the base. Though no one is really sure what caused it, as Jack enters the elevator he smiles.

Notable Quotes[]

Freyr: There has been an incident with the Goa'uld.
O'Neill: An incident?
Freyr: Commander Thor has been killed.

Carter (Asgard Hologram): (Waves at a group of Osiris/Anubis Jaffa to distract them) Hey, guys!!  What's happenin'?

Anubis: (To Thor) I think you'll find many things have changed ... since my return.

Teal'c: Our chances of escape are negligible.
O'Neill: Oh, I don't know. All we've got to do is bust out of here, take out every Jaffa between here and the pel'tak, commandeer the ship, and fly on home.
Teal'c: I stand corrected.

Thor: The Goa'uld are attempting to download the information stored in my pre-frontal cortex. It is only a matter of time before they break through my mental defenses.
O'Neill: Yeah well, you know. Love to help you, but we've got our own problems here.
Thor: I am aware of your situation. I believe I can rewrite some minor subroutines in the security protocol.
Teal'c: To what end? (the doors open)
O'Neill: Sweet.

Osiris: Report.
Jaffa: The battle with Lord Yu does not go well. We request reinforcements.
Osiris: That stubborn old man simply refuses to die!!!

O'Neill: Thor! Buddy!
Thor: O'Neill. You can not take me with you.
O'Neill: Why not?
Thor: The link between myself and the Goa'uld ship has not been severed. They will be able to track our position. You must leave me behind.
O'Neill: Right. That doesn't work for me. It's not an option, okay?

O'Neill: Any ideas?
Heimdall: We can not risk capture. We must destroy the ship ourselves.
O'Neill: Any good ideas?

Notes[]

Plantilla:Source images

  • This episode broke the Stargate SG-1 tradition of ending the season with the cliffhanger at the end of a two-parter. There is a meta-reference to this in the final lines of the episode.
  • It is revealed that Major General George S. Hammond served in the Vietnam War in this episode.
  • It is revealed that the Asgard race is dying, as their only method of reproduction is through cloning. By cloning themselves over and over, their genetic code has decayed considerably.
  • Some of the Jaffa in the patrol ambushed by Teal'c, Colonel Jack O'Neill and the Major Samantha Carter hologram bear the mark of Apophis.
  • O'Neill says to Teal'c "I don't think we're that much of a nuisance just yet." He said exactly the same thing in "The Enemy Within" soon after Stargate Command first learned of the threat posed by the Goa'uld.
  • This is the last original episode to air on Showtime. Season Six and beyond aired on the Sci-Fi Channel.
  • Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson) does not appear in this episode. However, it is implied at the end that the breeze SG-1 feels is Daniel. Michael Shanks does appear as the voice of Thor. This is the last episode where Michael Shanks would be listed in the main cast until season 7.
  • Teryl Rothery (Dr. Janet Fraiser) does the voice of Heimdall in this episode. Heimdall was 100% computer animated, as the Asgard puppet was needed to play Thor. According to the episode audio commentary, Rothery appeared on set wearing a t-shirt with an Asgard image on it. This created a distraction on set as Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, and Christopher Judge were forced to speak to a blinking light on Rothery's chest.
  • David Palffy (Anubis) previously played Sokar in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Jolinar's Memories" and "The Devil You Know". This led to some confusion among fans when David's name appeared in the credits.

Goofs[]

Amanda Tapping (far right) hiding in a corner.

  • In the scene where they reach the door to the shield-generator room just before they are knocked out, as they were walking towards the door, out of the corner of the set Amanda Tapping is seen ducked down.
  • When Freyr walks through the Stargate, Major Samantha Carter walks in the gate room and immediately recognizes that it is Freyr who comes through before anything is said. It has been stated in other episodes that the only way to tell the Asgard apart is their voice but Carter knew this was Freyr before he says anything. *Although it's possible that since each Asgard is a slightly different color, that she recognized him by his color... it was Dr. Daniel Jackson who stated in the season 10 episode "Unending" that he could tell that the Asgard standing in front of them was Thor by his voice, which was a joke based on Michael Shanks playing the voice of Thor.
